You may have found that Google now shows profile pictures of webmasters in their search results. Actually, Google has introduced this new feature where a blogger or a webmaster can show their own Google profile picture in Google search results.
Your profile picture will be shown whenever anyone will search for a blog post that you have written. You are just required to verify your authorship using your Google Profile. Once your authorship is verified, Google will start showing your Google profile picture in the search results with all the blog posts you have written or beside the results of your website.
Of course, this feature will help you have more credibility on your blog or website. However, if you have a popular blog or website and you want to show all of your readers how you look in the Google search results, follow these methods carefully to make it possible.
1. Create a Google Profile.
First of all, you need to have a Google profile which you can use to verify your ownership. If you are a popular webmaster, you must have a Google account. So at first, create a Google profile using your Google account.
The reason you should create a Google profile is that whenever someone clicks on your profile image in Google search, they will be redirected to your Google profile. So your Google profile must be created carefully with all the possible details about yourself.
If you don’t want your readers to have a bad image about yourself while visiting your Google profile, try to make it attractive. Add your real picture as your profile image and add some details about yourself carefully and also upload some images to your profile to make it attractive to your readers.
2. Create an ‘About Me’ Page on Your Site.
Secondly, you should also create an ” About Me ” on your blog or website. This is the page that you will use to verify your authorship. Create your author page on your blog just as you created your Google profile. Use your real picture on the page. It is suggested to use the same picture you have used for your Google profile.
Write down some details about yourself. Here are some ideas for a beautifully written profile page …. Start your profile by saying who you actually are, then some details about what your blog is about, how you started your blog, what motivated you to start a blog, what are the things you are passionate about and want to write on your blog and so on. The below picture is how a good profile may look.
3. Connect Your Profile to This Page.
Once you created your Google profile and also built a beautifully written profile page, it is time to connect your Google profile to your profile page. So you need to log into your Google profile account and add your profile page as a link.
Go to the ‘About’ section of your profile. Click on the ‘Edit’ tab and scroll down until you find ‘Contribute to’ section. Click on it and you will be able to add links to your profile. You need to choose this field to make a link back to your blog profile page. Create two links – one is a link back to your blog homepage and another is a link back to your profile page.
4. Connect Your Site to Your Profile.
Now it is time to connect your blog or website to your Google profile. Create a link from your blog profile page with a link back to your Google profile. While creating this link remember to add rel= ‘me’ attribute to the link. Use the following link structure to create the link …..
<a href=”https://profiles.google.com/your_ID ? rel= me”>My Profile</a>
5. Make Sure All Contents are Connected.
The next step is to make sure that all of your blog articles or your site contents include a link to your profile page. Of course, you don’t have to edit all of your contents manually. Just make a link to your profile page in the head section of your site.
While creating this link remember to add rel=’author’ attribute to the link. Use the following link structure to create the link …..
<a href=”http://yourwebsite.com/about/” rel=”author”>My short bio</a>
It is not mandatory that you create the link only in the head section of your blog. You can choose any place that loads with all of your articles. You can choose sidebar section or even footer sections of your blog. However, if you add your link in the head section, it is much easier for the search engines to crawl it. However, it also crawls footer and sidebar section similarly.
Now go to the following link Rich Snippets Testing Tool and copy-paste the URL of your blog homepage or any content URL in the preview box and click ” Preview “. If you get a green message saying ‘Verified: Authorship markup is verified for this page‘, you are all set.
Now it is time to wait for Google to crawl your blog and verifies your ownership. Once verified, Google would start showing your Google profile image in the search results. Google doesn’t guarantee to show your picture in Google Search results.
